Botrytis cinerea ("botrytis" - from Ancient Greek botrys meaning "grapes" and  Latin cinerea meaning "like ashes") is a parasitic fungus that affects many plant species, especially wine grapes. In viticulture, it is commonly known as botrytis bunch rot. It causes two different kinds of infections on grapes: the grey rot and the noble rot.
