Taxonomy is a very refined branch of botany which deals with the plant identification nomenclature as well as the classification of the plants also.

As a student I used to love taxonomy ;D The hardest part of it is that it changes fast.

I wish I could. I am afraid I'm not that good anymore.
What I can tell you is that the basic taxon is the species. It is a group of individuals which share common features, can reproduce and give viable and fertile siblings. There are many definitions of the term species. Each species has a latin name which is made usually of 2 words; for example Rosa multiflora is the latin name of the rose. There are many species of rose, multiflora is just one of them. It means "with many flowers".
All related species form a larger group called genus. Rosa is the name of the genus, multiflora is the name of the species. You should always write the genus name with a capital letter (R), and the species name with a small letter. For example, some species of Rosa are: R. multiflora, R. damascena, R. canina etc.
