Prunus dulcis - Almond

The almond is native to North Africa and South - West Asia. It is widespread in the whole mediterranean region. It has lanceolate leaves (they look a bit like the peach tree leaves) and big pink flowers. Usually the flowers are borne singly or in pairs. Almond blossom occur in spring before the young leaves.
In Sicily I've seen many almond orchards. The local people told me that every year the Almond Blossom Festival takes place in Aggrigento.
