The Japanese Cherries (Sato-zakura) are ornamental flowering garden trees raised in Japan. It seems they are hybrids of two native species: the hill cherry and the Oshima cherry. These cherry hybrids have been cultivated in Japan fore more than 1,500 years.

I tell you, Anam, in southern Germany they grow these cherries like crazy! I first saw them there and I didn't know what they were.

Jonela, this is quite an interesting plant, it looks quite delicious to taste. Do tell me if you have ever tasted this fruit ?

jonela

No, Anam. I never tasted japanese cherry fruits. Maybe they taste like normal, ordinary cherries.

How beautiful. Grow in our climate conditions?

jonela

Yes, they are able to grow in our temperate climate. There are many cultivars of Prunus serrulata. I like the ornamental ones with those pink double flowers.

Jonela can you explain your own climate condition please. but i think that they are only possible to bloom is cold areas and cold places.  Do share your views.

Romania lies in the middle of Europe where the climate is temperate continental. We have cold winters (- 25 Celsius) and hot summers (+ 35 Celsius), which means hardiness zone 5. The Japanese cherries' hardiness zones are 4 - 7, depending on the cultivar.
